14 Days of love Affirmation Printable

14 Days of Love Affirmation Printable - Ready for a relationship challenge? Lead up to Valentine's Day with this 14 Days of Love Affirmation Printable. Time to show some love affirmation!

It’s coming up to the season of LOVE!!  As a pagan, we celebrate a version of Valentine’s Day on Imbolc, also known as Candlemas or Groundhog Day as it was made into.  We use this day as an excuse to celebrate our love, have a date night and enjoy good food.  I like to use the time between Imbolc and Valentine’s Day to really celebrate our love together.  We try to remember why we have this crazy life and family together.  We have two little ones and my husband has a busy work schedule so romance isn’t always at the top of our list at the end of the day.  This is the perfect reminder that it needs to be and we need to make it a priority.

Time for a relationship challenge!

I have a challenge for you and your marriage or relationship.  I will say marriage, but I’m from Quebec, people don’t always get married there but live together for decades and have kids.  Some people are in a same sex relationship and may or may not be able to get married. I include everyone, if you are in love and together, this is for all of you!

14 Days of Love Affirmation Printable - Ready for a relationship challenge? Lead up to Valentine's Day with this 14 Days of Love Affirmation Printable. Time to show some love affirmation!

Starting the first day of February you need to have two of these sheets printed out.  Post it on the wall, or fridge, someplace you both can see and appreciate.  You need to remember to do it daily, that’s the fun of it.  Every day you and your partner need to think of a reason you love the other person and write it down, every day from Imbolc to Valentine’s Day!  It’s a great way to show your partner how much you care, and get some affirmation yourself that you are loved too.

Ladybug Girl Wings

Ladybug Girl Wings - Celebrate the monthly crafting book club for January with Ladybug Girl, come see the crafts bloggers have come up with, like my Ladybug Girl Wings.

This month for the Monthly Crafting Book Club we are covering the Ladybug Girl series.  This series is a personal favourite in my house and my daughter is always asking for Ladybug Girl Wings.  My son is game to try anything and likes the character Bumblebee Boy so he was happy to get his own wings too.

The Ladybug Girl series by  Jacky Davis and David Soman is really fun.  Each book is trying to teach children how to overcome obstacles, sometimes it is boredom, disagreements, etc.  My daughter was almost three-and-a-half when she fell in love with this series, she told everyone her name was Lulu (so strangers at the park asked me about my daughter Lulu!).  She even taught her 18-month-old brother to answer to Bingo (the main character’s dog) and would try to lead him around on a leash.  I couldn’t wait to do this book as a theme in the Monthly Crafting Book Club and see what everyone else came up with too!

If you are new to the Monthly Crafting Book Club, it is a group of bloggers I organize where every month we focus on a different book, series, or theme and all try to come up with a craft or activity that relates to the book. We have sucessflly done it for a year, you can check out last years themes and crafts below:

January – Barnyard Dance

February – If You Give A Moose A Muffin

March – ABC’s

April – Piggy in the Puddle

May – Five Little Monkeys

June – A Camping-related book

August – A Back to School-related book

September – It’s Pumpkin Day Mouse

October – Have You Seen My Monster

November – Georgie the Gingerbread Fairy Wand Craft

December – Winter Theme Book

If you are a blogger and want to join us, join our Facebook group HERE and feel free to participate whenever you can.  The next book we are covering for February is Giraffes Can’t Dance and March is How do Dinosaurs….series.

On to our Ladybug Girl Wings, what child doesn’t love a set of wings to run around and fly with?

Ladybug Girl Wings - Celebrate the monthly crafting book club for January with Ladybug Girl, come see the crafts bloggers have come up with, like my Ladybug Girl Wings.

Ladybug Girl Wings

Materials Needed:

  • Large Fun Foam
  • Wire
  • Glue Gun & sticks
  • Extra fun foam and glitter for decorations
  • Elastic
  • Cardboard to cut out (like an old cereal box)

How to assemble:

  • Sketch out the wings on some cardboard and cut it out as a template.
  • Trace it out on the fun foam, you will need four, two per side.
  • leaving a space a few inches long at the top left for the wire, glue two sides together with the glue gun, repeat on the other side.  Trim access foam around the edges so it looks uniform all around (save the spot you saved for the wire).
  • Take the wire and make a loop in the middle, with the wire sticking out the top on both sides (see diagram).
  • Use the glue gun to attach the long loops into the wing on each side.
  • Trim again to make sure the wings are uniform.
  • Take the elastic and tie to the top of the wire and bottom on each side. Adjust them to your child’s size.
  • Time to get your child to help you decorate the wings!  For my daughter we cut out black circles for the lady bug dots and she helped to glue them on. For my son I stuck to glitter as he is two and his help makes everything challenging.

Time to run around like a bunch of crazy fairies, bugs, etc.

What kind of bug is your child if and when they play BUG SQUAD??

How to help your Direct Sales Business

I recently joined the world of direct sales last winter, almost coming up to my one year anniversary!  I have people ask me a lot of questions and from my experience blogging I have learned a lot so I wanted to share my tips on How to help your Direct Sales Business.  There are some websites that can make life a lot easier for you.

Whether you do trade shows, in-home parties, online Facebook parties, etc. there are a lot of ways you can make your life easier, and a lot of options for free too.  Do you want to know How to help your Direct Sales Business?  Keep reading below, make sure you add your tips to the comment section to help others too.

Tiny Torch

Do you host Facebook parties?  Then you NEED an online scheduling tool.  Facebook parties are amazing, but if you have to be present a few times a day (or night ) to post everything live it can be really hard, life happens, kids, families, making it so you cannot always be online to post when you need too.  You may also not be available at the times that are most optimal for participation.  Enter a scheduling website like Tiny Torch, this website is a life saver!  There are other websites you can use, but I like this one, you can sign up for a free account and schedule up to five posts a day per group/event/page, so you can preschedule all the posts for your private group in advance, as well as your parties.  Seriously a life saver.  It makes things much easier for you in the long run and gives you less to worry about.  For a small fee you can upgrade to a deluxe version and be able to schedule up to 10 posts a day, or add photo albums, all choices you can make if you think it would help your business, otherwise the free version is pretty awesome and still really helpful.

Use this link to get $10 free to try upgraded services if you want, or stick to the free ones: Tiny Torch

Tailwind

If you have a Pinterest account this is a great tool to have.  It is a great site which schedules all your Pinterest pins for you (similar to Tiny Torch above, but for Pinterest).  It is recommended you share content that is not always sales content to keep your customers interested.  If you sell makeup maybe tips on doing makeup, or a fun outfit to match with your makeup for a night out.  If you sell leggings tips on styling your outfit, if you sell essential oils, DIY recipes to use the essential oils in, you get it.  But for some having a Pinterest account is a big part of their business and scheduling your pins means you are pinning your content at the best time of day for your readers to see it, and sharing enough content to keep your business in other people’s minds.

Use this link to get $15 in free credit to try out Tailwind

If you are on Pinterest you NEED Tailwind, it is a great time saver and ensures you reach your customers at the most optimal time!

Hootsuite

Another free site that I use to schedule and share webpages is Hootsuite.  Whether you are sharing on twitter and tweeting it or sharing it on Facebook, this site can make it easy for you to share some fun content on both platforms to keep your readers engaged.  It’s a great way to share articles, or other pages that may be related to your business.  I use it to share recipes, tips, and other things that may interest my customers in my VIP group.

Square

Do you do shows?  Sell your wares to people in person?  This is invaluable.  You sign up for free and they send you a free credit card reader, seriously, that’s how easy it is.  If you use my link below you will get some transactions free (and me too if I am lucky!), but in general it will charge you 2%, which isn’t the end of the world.  In this day and age not many people carry cash anymore, I never have enough cash to buy stuff.  To be honest, if they do not have a card reader, they will be loosing out on my sale and many other’s as I just don’t have cash.  Even at my local farmer’s market, most have card readers, it shocks me when people don’t, it’s free to get!  Seriously, by NOT having one you lose out on so much business, so set yourself up, try it free below.  If you sell stuff, do your customer’s a favour by offering them the choice to pay by credit card!!

Try this link and you can process up to $1,000 in credit card sales for free during your first 180 days Square .  It is still free to get the reader.

Vistaprint

I am sure everyone has heard of Vistaprint by now, but if you haven’t you need it!  It is a great affordable way to order personalized business supplies without costing a fortunate.  The best part is they always seem to have some sort of sale going on so it is rare you pay full price without some sort of incentive or reward.  They have fun monthly promo boxes to send you tools monthly you may need for your business.  You can get personalized business cards, magnets, post cards, address labels, signs, brochures, etc.

Canva

This is another free site, invaluable for making graphics.  I use it to make party graphics, graphics for the party page, my group, party invites, printables, signs, so many options of things to make.  It may take a bit of playing around to learn to navigate but is essential for keeping things fresh and making you own graphics.

This is a super cool site I was introduced to through blogging, it is amazing for making lists.  I have many different lists to keep track of, upcoming parties, who is hosting, the date, their address, etc. I always have a million lists on the go and his is perfect for keeping track of everything all in one place, again free!!

Easy Vegetarian Indian Dinner

Easy Vegetarian Indian Dinner - This is such an easy dish to make and sure to be a family favourite. For kids of all ages and a quick dish to make making it great after a day of work.

This is one of our FAVOURITE dinners in my house.  I hate repetition, but we have it every month or so.  My kids love to dip things, and as vegetarians I am always looking for easy ways to get some iron (spinach) and protein (lentils) into them.  This is a whole meal and one, but doesn’t take a long time to make or require a lot of ingredients.

What do you need to make it?

Easy Vegetarian Indian Dinner

Author:
Recipe type: Vegetarian
Cuisine: Indian
Ingredients
  • •2 Onions minced
  • •Garlic (I use pre-minced) 2 tbsp
  • •Bag of spinach
  • •Package of Paneer cheese
  • •Oil
  • •1 tsp Tumeric
  • •1/2-1 tsp Cumin
  • •1/2-1 tsp Chili powder
  • •1 tsp Cinnamon
  • •2 cups Lentils (rinsed and maybe soaked for 5 min if you have time)
  • •Water to cover lentils in pot, I found aboutt 3-3½ cups
  • •2 tbsp. Tomato Paste
  • •4 tbsp. Lemon juice
Instructions
  1. Prep everything first, put lentils to soak, cut the onions, wash the spinach, cut the paneer, drain lentils.
  2. In a pot fry ½ onions for about five minutes until translucent, add in garlic and stir. While that cooks add in all the spices and stir. Add in lentils and enough water to cover, about 3½ cups I found. Add in tomato paste and stir. You can cook for 25-45 minutes, keep stirring regularly.
  3. Preheat the oven and put in the naan bread to warm. Only needs to be in about 5-10 minutes.
  4. Add the other ½ of minced onions and cook for five minutes again, until translucent. Add in the paneer cheese, stir/flip regularly until starting to brown, add in a hand full or two of the spinach and cook. We like our paneer a little crispy so prefer it too cook longer. (Check on your naan!) Spinach shrinks a lot when hot so keep adding in handfuls of spinach until your bag is done and it is all wilted. Ensure the cheese is done to your preference.
  5. Serve all three on a plate and watch your kids actually eat!

Pete the Cat Rocking School Shoes - IG

This month in the Monthly Crafting Book Club we are focussing on books related to back to school.  There are so many AMAZING back to school books that it is way more fun to see what everyone comes up with then by all doing the same  book.

After visiting the lirary and browsing their selection of books my daughter fell in love with Pete the Cat and his Rocking School Shoes.  In 24 hours I have had to read it at least 10 times…….. Thank goodness it’s a library book and goes back in a few weeks!  Anyways, after reading it I knew a craft with Pete’s red shoes would be PERFECT!  So we decided to get messy and do a painting activity for Pete’s red shoes.

Pete the Cat - Rocking in my school shoes - Come read the book and make the fun craft with your toddler/preschooler/child.

MATERIALS NEEDED

  • Pete the Cat Book
  • BIG paper, or a roll of paper
  • red paint
  • A marker
  • Rain boots
  • A bucket
  • Plastic plate
  • Soap
  • Optional: a kiddy pool all set up…..

HOW TO DO IT

First we filled up a bucket with soap and I got the kids to wash their boots, clean boots are important for painting with them.  While the kids did that I filled up their kiddy pool for easy washing once they are done getting messy.

13912898_10157385247345245_7224492434373789724_n

I chose to use rain boots instead of flip flops or running shoes because my kids are little and rain boots won’t be as slippery, plus it won’t ruin their shoes.

14046013_10157385247105245_2053513021945463001_n

I put a plate on the floor with red paint, then had them step in the paint with their boots and dance around the paper to make their cool cat rocking shoe foot print.

13906689_10157385247255245_2306186753301551310_n

They were having so much fun we also tried one without the boots in their bare feet in the paint.  They loved that too!  Squishy, squashy, messy fun!

Have #messyfun with your #littleones & paint in your shoes! #petethecat Click To Tweet

14045593_10157385246975245_7049013710375352566_n

When they were done we wrote a fun quote from the book on the paper and hung it up to dry.  Now for swimming bath time fun!

Pete the Cat - Rocking in my school shoes - It's time for back to school! This Monthly Crafting Book for August is focusing on Back to School books with crafts to make reading more fun with your kids!

I love this activity as even my one and a half year old son can easily participate too.  My three year old daughter gets stimulated but so does my son.  It can be hard to find activities that they will both enjoy and painting, especially with boots, is such an easy and fun one!

What is your favourite back to school book?

Camping Hacks

Camping Hacks - Going camping is so much fun! But challenging with young kids. Try these Camping Hacks with kids to make your life easier and camping more fun!

Do you like to go camping with your kids?  I sure do! Although we always have a blast, I have picked up some tricks over the years to make our trip more enjoyable and comfortable. Here are some of my favourite hacks while camping with my kids.

Pillow case 1

This may seem like an odd hack, but after a week camping it was useful to me and other campers thought it was neat so I thought I would share it.  Instead of changing your pillow case before camping, bring the clean pillow case in your luggage, change it after your tent is set up.  I found my pillows got super dirty in the car and sitting on the ground or picnic table during unloading.  It is much better to change it once in the tent for a clean pillow.  Then use the dirty case as a laundry bag, put all your dirty clothes in there during the trip so it is easy to cart home and take straight to the washing machine to be cleaned.

Pump soap & solar shower

This was my sister’s genious idea, combined with my soap.  Bring a solar shower with you.  It is only like $10-15 at Wal-Mart, a great investment if you camp a lot and also good for showers while camping.  Fill it with water and hang it from a tree, put some soap near by, I just brought regular pump soap, it is easier than a bar and can sit at the bottom of the tree on the ground.  After using the outhouse or port-a-potty or bush you can easily wash your hands afterwards!  My three-year-old could manage to wash her own hands, which made our life much easier. Great to wash your hands after playing in the dirt, questionable beach water, and before meals.  A simple cleanliness station, which makes you feel MUCH better camping.

Potty

My daughter can go to the toilet herself at home, but at three I don’t want her traipsing to the port-a-potty on her own and they are pretty nasty.  We bring her potty with us, I take out the center (for catching the poop and pee) and she can easily bush pee on her potty independently without needing us to run her to the camp bathrooms.  With the hand washing station above she can wash her hands afterwards on her own too.  Being able to have your child go to the bathroom independently is a great blessing while camping as it saves you time and effort.  She knew when she had to go poop to tell us and we would take her to the port-a-potty, no one wants to clean that up out of the grass!

Wagon 1

This one is depending on the ages of your kids.  We have a pop-up wagon that is AMAZING.  It can be used to help cart all your camping gear to your tent, store stuff at the site, help you transport kids around the site easily, hold all your beach toys, towels, water bottles etc. while going to the beach, and if you have to walk to your car help transport groceries from your car and/or kids to the car for errands into town.

Thermal BagI brought an extra thermal bag (I LOVE my Thirty-One thermals!) on the way up for drinks and veggies that didn’t fit in the cooler.  Once they did I used the bag for ice runs to keep the ice solid longer.  It worked great!  Driving to town and back plus walking to and from the parking lot meant at least 10-20 minutes that the ice was out of the freezer before going in the cooler.  A thermal bag to transport makes a difference and it is cold carrying it against your body so some extra protection between you and the ice feels better too.

Sarong fence

This one is great for close camping quarters and festivals.  Use those clothes lines like a fence. Bring string/rope to tie up around the perimeter of your camping area (also a great way to mark off your area so no one comes camping in it during festivals) then bring old curtains, sheets, sarongs, and clothes pins.  Pin them up on the clothes lines around the camp, it’s pretty, and you get more privacy!

Click To Tweet

Have outside and inside bags

In a week camping we did not let one single mosquito into our ten (and let me assure you there were tons!).  I have a three and one and a half year old so that is saying something.  Trips into the tent are kept to a minimum and usually reserved for nap times and bed time.  I have a bin outside the tent with stuff we need regular access to like sunscreen, bug repellent, toothbrushes, hats, bathing suits, and flashlights.  Stuff is easier to access outside and you keep the bugs out of your tent with minimal trips.

Solar Lights

These are awesome and cheap.  You can take ones from your yard, or pick some up at Dollarama before you go.  Stick them out in the sun during the day to charge, then at night you can put them around your seating area and/or the edges of your tent so you can see where the tripping spots are.  It is great for checking on sleeping kids too, enough light to see them and like a nightlight, without having to flash your flashlight at them and wake them up.

Don’t forget to bring a flashlight too! Check out these cool flashlights, every camper needs a good flashlight.

Epic Water Play Summer Edition

Epic water play summer - Summertime is the perfect time to play outside and enjoy some water play! Here are some great (free or cheap) ideas to keep the kids busy playing.

As you can tell if you read my winter edition epic water play post, I am a big fan of water play.  It is a  great way to keep kids busy, help them practice different motor skills like pouring and scooping and also just foster their creativity and imagination by playing different things with the water.  You can really spark their imagination when you add in different toys, kitchen utensils, etc. so they can have a chance to make believe what they think it should be used for.

Epic water play summer - Summertime is the perfect time to play outside and enjoy some water play! Here are some great (free or cheap) ideas to keep the kids busy playing.

Here is my epic water play summer addition:

I think that setting up your outdoor play area is an essential part of summer survival regardless of what age your children are.  Summertime is the perfect chance to be outside and play.  You don’t necessarily need to have a lot of toys out there, but you need to be organized with activities and ideas of things that they should do out there to keep them busy.

I’m going on my third summer with outdoor play being a very important part of our summer plans.  Having a perfectly set up deck has always been essential for me.  Two summers ago I had a toddler and I was pregnant with my second child.  I had a lot of dizziness in my first and even into my second trimester, incredible vertigo where standing up made me so dizzy it was like I was drunk.  I wasn’t even safe to drive most of the time and trying to keep up with the busy active toddler was really difficult as all I want to do was lie on the couch and not move, as I am sure many people can attest to in their pregnancy.  I learned early on that summer how essential it was to keep my daughter busy outside while giving me a place where I could sit and watch her without having to move too much because moving made me dizzy.

I am sure it does not need to be said but you need to be cautious and ensure your child’s skin safety before you go outside to begin with.  When we go out I know we will be outside for a bit, so I try to put sunscreen on, then rash guard bathing suits with long sleeves so we can play outside for hours and not worry as much about getting burned.  None of us go anywhere without our water bottles either. I also try to set up the activities in the shade so they are not in the direct sun.

Looking for some fun #waterplay activities to keep your kiddos busy? Look no further! Click To Tweet

Toys I found useful for various activities in our backyard:

  • Little kids pools
  • Water table
  • Big swing set and slide
  • Toddler-size slide and climbing structure
  • Sports equipment (t-ball, foot ball, baseball, soccer ball, etc.)
  • Ride-on toys
  • Push toys
  • Buckets, cups, of various sizes
  • Random water or bath toys
  • Nets (like on a stick from the dollar store for catching stuff)
  • Bubble wands and solution

Water table

The water table may seem extravagant but for three years it has been a big part of keeping my kids busy outside.  My kids just love playing in the water.  Even though my son was only six months last summer, he loved the water table.  He figured out how to stand up and hold onto it and he could still play with it by “furniture cruising” around the ends of the table.
As with indoor water play, any kind of  waterplay is all about the set up.  If you can be really organized a few days ahead of time that is even better.  If you know the weather is going to be really really hot this is the perfect time to get organized for your waterplay battles.  Take some old yogurt containers and freeze some plastic animals inside.  I went to  the dollar store and bought a whole bunch of animals specifically for this purpose. I freeze the animals in the bottom of the containers of water (you can add food colouring for fun if you want) then when it’s time for us to actually go outside and play I put the frozen containers in some hot water so that it melts a little and I could get the ice out of the container.  I put all the frozen blocks of ice in their table and they can practice trying to get them out with hot water and tools or they can just practice letting it float around the table until the animals float free.  Either way they love the addition of animals throughout their water play to play with as well.

Another idea is to take some ice cubes and color them with food coloring before you freeze them, this will help the water get a dozen different colors.  They can also practice mixing different color ice cubes together and see what color it forms.  Random kitchen utensils also make a lot of fun, as do colanders, whisks (for some reason ??),  measuring spoons and cups.

Water table play

We have water toys dedicated for outdoor play to keep it fresh. I would just let them play for hours out there and they would have a blast. I even set up the blowup pool with cold water and the water table with hot water so they can experience the difference between temperatures. I would fill up parts of the water table with soapy water so they can practice giving animals a bath.  It is also a great way to get them to clean up their own toys.  Sponges are a lot of fun in the water table to see how much it absorbs and try squeezing it out.

All-around water tables are a great way to keep your kids busy in the summertime, especially when they are getting Squirrley towards the witching hour waiting for daddy to come home from work.  This is the best time to stick them in the water outside and have them play for a bit.

water bubble pool

I even fill up the kiddy pool with bubble bath and the kids can have a bath while playing in the pool!  Two activities in one!  We eat most of or meals outside in the summer too and before you know it you have been outside for about four hours enjoying the sun and making it so the fresh air will help them have a nice deep sleep that night.

Water kiddie pool

Some ways to keep the entertainment fresh with a kiddie pool:

  • Using a net scoop up plastic toys, or play fish.
  • Fill up watering cans and water the garden.
  • Scoop up water in cups and pots and pour it into a bucket/water table/etc.
  • Fill up with bubbles and use as a bath time.
  • Have the kids fill up the pool with the hose, it’s great practice aiming.
  • Plastic boats, squirt guns, tons of possibilities for play!

Monthly Crafting Book Club for July - Camping books - I G

I chose to do Froggy Goes To Camp by Jonathan London, a personal favourite of my daughters.  It is a goofy book about a frog going to sleep away camp and it makes my daughter laugh and laugh.  In one of the scenes in the book Froggy and his teacher go kayaking, so we decided to do a kayak as our craft.

Kayak materials

Materials Needed:

  • Scissors, stapler, paint brushes, tape
  • Paint in three colours
  • Chop sticks
  • Toilet Paper Rolls
  • Random animal or people to sit in the kayak (find them around the house)

kayak 2

  • Have the adult cut a hole in the middle of a toilet paper roll so the creature has somewhere to sit.
  • Get your child to help you staple down the end of the toilet paper roll so it closes like the end of a kayak.
  • Have your child choose a color paint and paint the “kayak” their favourite colour.
  • Using the leftover pieces of the toilet paper roll that you cut out of the cockpit, cut it in two and shape it like paddles.  We chose to paint the paddle ends brown.
  • Let it all dry.
  • Once the paddle ends are dry use tape to tape them onto the ends of a chop stick as the paddle.
  • Put your creature in the cockpit (hopefully they fit) and have fun pretending to kayak!!

Toddler Friendly Avocado Pasta

Toddler Friendly Avocado Pasta - This easy toddler friendly avocado pasta is a big hit in my house! Easy to make, use what you have on hand, and get the kids involved to help!

My kids love avocados!  Being vegetarian we try to add protein into regular foods, and everyone knows how much kids LOVE pasta.  This is a big favourite in my house.  Super easy to make and really quick.  I can make the sauce as the pasta cooks and everyone demolishes it.  My three-year-old even helps me make the sauce, she can scoop avocado, and help measure ingredients.
