It’s summertime and that means it is really hot in Ottawa, Canada. My kids like to endulge in cold treats. Especially when playing outside. I thought it would be a great idea to come up with a DIY Sugar-Free Freezies recipe to give them on hot days. I prefer to give them things without sugar added (aka naturally sweet) for health reasons. Lately studies are saying how bad sugar is for you. I am on Weight Watchers and sugar is a lot of points, so I try to keep it for the really good treats. I’m not totally crazy about sugar, I let them have timbits and cake. Plus I know my hubby is always giving them ice cream and chocolate when he is eating it. But I try to help them make healthy choices and eat healthy as much as I can.
DIY Sugar-Free Freezies
My kids had so much fun helping me assemble the ingredients and mix them together.
The waiting part was very hard for them though!
- Banana - ripe
- Mango - cubed
- ½-2/3 c greek yogurt (I use 0% fat)
- ½ c of coconut milk
- I mixed everything together and blended it with my hand-help immersion blender (but a regular blender or food processor works well too) until smooth with no chunks.
- Next using a spoon I filled up the silicone freezie molds and put them in the freezer until after nap time.
Now is the fun and sticky part! I let the kids take the DIY Sugar-Free Freezies outside (not on my clean floor please!) to enjoy them. Then get sprayed with the hose (which they think is awesome) or swim in the kiddie pool to clean off. Success!! Kiddos and hubby liked them!Check out this recipe for DIY Sugar-Free Freezies #freezies #freezie #Popsicle Click To Tweet
