Date Night #4 – Fondue Date

If you have been following my blog before now you will now this is a monthly series I do where I post an easy idea for a date you can do with your partner to connect at home once the kids are in bed.  Usually for cheaply because who does not like to be frugal?  If you are new, welcome!  This is the fourth in the series so if you are looking for some other ideas on easy dates to do at home then don’t forget to check out the previous three at the bottom of the post.   It can be hard as a parent with young children to go anywhere,  I have a nursing baby so I tend to not go very far from home, and rarely at night.  It is important for my husband and I to still get quality time in and connect with each other so it is my mission to provide fun dates for us to do at least once a month, hopefully easy ones that you can do at home with your love.

Date Night Challenge 4 - Fondue Date: It is very important to connect with your partner on a regular basis, have some fun, focus on each other, and remember why you are together.

Idea:  A date night at home, can even be during the week after work (that was the only time that worked for our schedule) with some delicious Fondue.

Supplies Needed:

  • Candles
  • Wine
  • Fondue Pot, forks, and burner
  • Fondue (either in the package or home-made, I posted a great recipe Wednesday you can try).

Method:

Set the table as romantic as possible, I did it while the kids were still awake so as soon as they were asleep we could eat.  Table cloth, candles, wine glasses (even if it is just for water, it feels fancier), fondue, fixings.

Results:

It was great!  My husband unfortunately had a long hard day at work and was home super late, right after the kids were in bed actually, so he was starving when he walked in and ready to eat.  I think the date already set up really helped relieve some of his stress as it immediately distracted him from his work issues and put his mind on more important things, like me!  Just kidding, on melted cheese and yummy bread, it’s hard to be in a bad mood while (delicately) stuffing your face with that and other delicious foods!

Just a quick 40 minute romantic meal date and then we could veg on the couch and be exhausted, that 40 minute re-charge was great though.  It really changed our moods and also was a good excuse for an amazing dinner!

You can make your fondue from those packages at the grocery store, and those certainly are good, but home-made fondue is absolutely AMAZING!  If you have not tried to make it yourself before I highly recommend it.  Super easy and not a lot of ingredients needed.  Check out my recipe here for an easy one to try.

What a lovely idea! We love our fondue here but we haven’t done this for a very long time now. Thank you for the ideas, it is great to have a reminder sometimes.:)

My husband and I love fondue! He’s part Swiss so we actually ended up getting several fondue sets when we got married 🙂 I think we kept one of them but haven’t used it in forever, and this is a great nudge to break it out for a date night soon. Thanks!

I have heard of the Melting Pot but it’s not in Canada. That’s so cool they have a cookbook I would love to go check it out one day!

This is such a fun idea! My husband and I have planned many fondue date nights, and every time, we have a blast! I am definitely sharing your post with my brother and sister-in-law as it is challenging for them to plan romantic “dates” with being so busy as parents. Your blog is so captivating and creative. Keep on being amazing!

Oh man I tried to make fondue one time without the right equipment and it’s was a complete disaster- my husband still won’t let it go and this was 9 years ago! Maybe it’s time to give it another go 🙂

Love this idea! We have a Melting Pot near us and it’s so pricey. I love that you can enjoy the taste of MP all from home!

I hear so much about the Melting Pot but never seen one in Canada, glad to hear it’s expensive, now I don’t feel like I am missing out as much.
