Celebrating May Day with your Family

Beltane or May Day is one of my favourite  sabbats.  There is something so magical about Spring and celebrating the returning of the plants and flowers.  Exactly six months (half a year) from Halloween or Samhain, it is almost the opposite to Samhain.  Instead of the veil between the worlds being thinnest to visit your relatives, this time the veil is thin for the fairies to come through and visit us.

This is a holiday for fertility and creation.  If you are hoping for a baby, now is the time to get your groove on and hope some of the fertility of the season will rub off on you.  Otherwise, it’s a great holiday for creating, make a drawing, invent some music, bake or cook, plant a garden, anything that you feel is creating something.

Beltane - May Day or Beltane is here! Here are lots of fun easy ways to celebrate with your family and welcome in this holiday of creating.

Some ways you can celebrate May Day with your family:

  • Wash your face with the dew of the morning grass, it will bring the blessings of youth and make you as beautiful outside as inside.
  • Dance around a may pole.
  • Make ribbon sticks and dance with them outside in the sun.
  • Wear flowers in your hair.
  • Make a flower head wreath.
  • Jump over a candle, bon fire, or other representative.
  • Celebrate life, enjoy your body, run, jump, play in the grass, climb trees, etc.
  • Leave a bowl of milk out for an offering to the fairies.
  • Make a May Day basket, out of woven paper.
  • Along with the season, celebrating fertility, also means celebrating your mother!  Mother’s day is coming up, celebrate some of the amazing mother’s in your life.
  • Bake some honey bread, eat some and leave some as an offering outside to the critters.
