Ostara Spring Equinox Cards - Do you like to send out seasonal cards to your family and friends? Check out below for a free printable and some tips to brighten up anyone's day.

Every Ostara, also known as the Spring Equinox, we take that as a chance to send our family and friends some happy mail.  I use any excuse I can to send grandparents and great grandparents cute little gifts from the kids.  I made up this Ostara Cards free printable template to make it easy for you to as well.  Kids love to be involved, and sending mail is so much fun!  Plus, maybe if they are lucky whoever they send mail to will reciprocate and send them back a surprise in the mail too!

My friends and family are used to my eccentricities.  I am the only pagan in my family, but lots of pagan-friendly friends and family.  I think even if people get cards that say Ostara on it, they don’t care as they take it in the spirit it was meant.  It’s more fun for everyone as they get to learn something new, and not following the Pagan wheel of the year it’s a surprise when they may receive a random gift from us.  Seriously, make friends who are part of a different spirituality, it makes things much more unexpected with extra holidays around and you learn so much!

Do you prefer to do things paperless?  You like to save the environment?  Or simply want to save time and resources by doing it all online?  I have another option for you too, I got a sample at Paperless Post to try out their really cool site.  It’s a great alternative to still send some fun cards to your family and friends, but a lot easier as you can do it all online.  Some really fun ways to customize a card to send to someone.  It’s easy to find individual cards for each person you want to send a fun surprise too, there are even free options so make sure you check it out!

Spring Pom Pom Tree

As part of the Kid Craft Challenge held by Kim over at The Resourceful Mama, I had to come up with a pom pom craft this month.  I decided to do a spring tree with my daughter and am thrilled with how it turned out.

Spring Pom Pom Tree - It's Spring time, why not make a wonderful nature craft with your kids, try this Spring Pom Pom Tree craft to bring a touch of Spring inside.

Materials Needed:

  • Twigs collected from outside
  • A pretty string, ribbon or thread to tie the sticks
  • Pom poms in various Spring colours
  • Glue Gun
  • Decorative butterfly’s

Pom pom

Instructions:

  • Grab a pretty ribbon to tie around the base of the sticks (a few inches from the base) tightly and around and around to try and anchor them together.
  • Use the glue gun to attach the pom poms to the tree.
  • Once again, use the glue gun to attach the butterfly decorations, I liked to put them on the pom poms as it almost looked like flowers and they were landing on it.
  • I put them in a vase and filled the vase with the remaining pom poms to help stabilize it in the vase.

Finished Product

My three-year-old, Bee, loved helping with this.  She had seen me use a glue gun before and desperately wanted to use it so I used this as a great opportunity to teach her about glue gun safety and hot/burning.  I put the glue on the tree branch and she attached the pom pom on top, being careful not to touch, or I put it directly on the pom pom and squeezed it onto the branch.  Bee even helped me squeeze the trigger and put the glue on the pom pom or butterfly, it was a lot of fun and she had a great time picking out the coloured pom poms for me to put on or which one she wanted to put on next.

Footprint Egg Wreath + Free Printable & Spring Link-Up

Spring is coming and with it the Spring Equinox, Ostara, Easter, whatever you celebrate. I am about done with Winter and cannot wait for Spring. My kids still love doing footprint and handprint art (though it has been awhile), so we decided to make a Footprint Egg Wreath. The idea being the footprints are supposed to represent the eggs.

Footprint Egg Wreath materials

Materials Needed:

  • Cardboard
  • Construction paper
  • Paint in various colours
  • Washi tape
  • Scissors, paintbrushes, glue
  • Egg printable (click here)

Footprint Egg Wreath directions

Instructions:

  • First I picked out three colours for the “eggs” and had Bee do two colours (three prints per colour) then she was too distracted (I blame Grandpa) so baby Po helped me with the other colour.  I painted their foot (re-applying each time) and stamped it on the paper.
  • Personally, I wanted a yellow decoration at the top, so Po got his hand painted yellow and stamped on the paper (which I am excited to say at one years old he knows how to do on the paper himself!).
  • While that dried I found a large bowl and drew a circle on my old cardboard box, then I used a container lid (aka smaller circle) and drew that in the middle, cutting it out to form a wreath.
  • I painted the wreath blue, because that was the colour paint left that I had the most of.  I set this aside to dry.
  • Grabbing the scissors I cut out the prints.

Time to decorate the eggs:

  • Next I gave Bee some washi tape to decorate the “eggs”, unfortunately, getting a three year old to do this means they do NOT look like eggs and don’t really have a pattern at all, she was also only interested in using one of the tapes and no interest in the other ones so they are not as colourful as I had hoped,  but she did it herself!
  • We glued the footprints around the outside of the wreath, the goal was alternating colours, but again, three year olds have a mind of their own and Bee had her own ideas of where she wanted stuff.
  • Lastly we finished off by gluing the hands at the top and having it hold the egg printable.
