Kids Birthday Party Easy DIY Decorations plus a GIVEAWAY

Kids Birthday Party Easy DIY Decorations - Kids Birthday Party's are so much fun! Here are some awesome ways to make them easier on yourself, DIY Party Decorations and locations to go for parties.

I love an awesome kids birthday party!  They are always so much fun and so different.  Some have parties at home, some are basic kids birthday parties like we had growing up, some are totally Pinterest-inspired and make me envy the mama’s creativity and energy to pull off something so amazing.  Other birthday parties are held at a hall, or an all-in-one center where there are friendly associates to help guide the kids though amazing activities.

SnapologyMy son has the misfortune (or rather I do I suppose) to have a birthday the week before Christmas.  I will probably be looking for a center to hold his kids birthday party every year, otherwise I risk my house being over run by 10 three-year-olds and my Christmas tree and ornaments are seriously put at risk.  Finding the right center can be challenging, do you look for a hall and bring everything yourself for the party?  Or pay extra to go to a location where they do it all.  I have never had it outside the house as my kids are still young.  But, I have heard it’s not a big price difference between the two.  Personally, I would rather go somewhere where they do it all and I don’t have to worry about a thing.  Especially so close to Christmas.

How to make parties easier

Snapology Next year we will be looking into a kids birthday party franchise to host our party (to save my Christmas stuff!).  One place I wish was closer was Snapology.  This place looks so cool.  I am a big advocate for STEM, especially for my daughter. Snapology She is so clever, she loves science, space, and wants to be a doctor or a cat vet when she grows up. My son too is very technical and loves to learn about how stuff works. Having an educational birthday party would be a great way to encourage their love of learning.  My son had a Paw Patrol party for his second birthday party, that could easily be accommodated with their wide array of themes.  If one opened where I live then he could have a superhero birthday party next year there or maybe a Star Wars party so he could make light sabers.

Make sure you enter in the giveaway below to win a LEGO® brick set of the Snapology Mascot Sebastian Gator to be mailed to your home.  It is recommended for ages 6+, but with most Lego, with parent supervision your child may be ready to play with it earlier.

DIY Kids Birthday Party Decorations

For those who have a kids birthday party at home, or who like to bring decorations with them to their birthday party location, here are some super easy ways to make DIY decorations for the party in three easy steps:

  1. One of the key ways that you can add a bit of magic into these DIY Birthday Party Decorations is to make them with a free computer site, I use Canva.  It makes it super easy to find graphics online, then add them into Canva to make your decorations.
  2. Next you want to get some pretty paper, card stock, scrapbook paper, even construction paper.  Make sure the pretty paper is bigger than the sign, an inch border on big signs, it could be a cm on smaller signs like for the food table or decorations.
  3. Now time for the magic, hit up your local craft section at the dollar store and buy decorative gems.  Make sure they are the sticky kind, it can be diamond-type, colourful crystals, pearls, whatever goes with your theme.

These are easy to make on your computer and can save you a lot of money.  Instead of buying them, or paying for a personalized etsy one, make it yourself!

Signs for the door to welcome your guests

This is one of my favourite touches for a party.  Perfect to put at the door, whether to your house or of the party room at your venue.  It tells people they are in the right location, welcomes them to your party, and sets the stage for the theme.  Check out how the bling and decorative paper take it up a notch and make it more magical.

Signs to decorate the room

Adding extra signs around the room are super cute and fun touches.  The kids love seeing their favourite characters around the wall and the parents get a kick out of them.  It is so easy to pick favourite taglines or quotes to incorporate different parts of the party area into the party.

Banner to decorate the wall

I love how easy it is to make banners for a party.  For a one-year-old party it is so cute to post a picture of them each month to see how they have grown.  To make it easy, you could even just stick to the traditional triangles.

Optional: Signs for the food table, labels for water bottles.

See how easy it is to make signs for your own party!  Don’t buy designer templates on etsy, or spend tons of money at a party store, save your money for more important things, there are no shortage of expenses around a child’s birthday and there are much better things to spend it on then decorations!

My Four Favourite Baby Carrier’s plus a Giveaway

My Four Favourite Baby Carrier's plus a Giveaway - Baby wearing is amazing! Having the best baby sling or baby carrier is important. Here are my top four favourite baby carriers plus a giveaway!

I am frequently asked what kind of carriers I like and which I recommend.   I have been thinking and working on My Four Favourite Baby Carrier’s for a year to be honest.  I want to preface this by saying that carriers are like bra’s, very personal to shop for.  Each carrier fits each woman differently, and they also fit the baby’s differently too.  I firmly believe you need to try out a lot of carriers to find the one that fits you best.

I have a pinched sciatic nerve, which gives me a lot of back trouble, I was not sure I would be able to babywear at all.  I started with some of the cheap and free ones (Infantino stretchy and soft structure, Seven Slings free pocket ones) and found even with a newborn they hurt my back and were not that comfortable.  It did not take me long to realize I needed a better carrier.  My local baby store lets you try out carriers (for free!) for a few days and I found it really helpful.  I tried out four carriers before I found one that didn’t hurt my back.  I found that the carriers with the crossed straps in the back were the easiest on my back.

Are you looking for the best baby sling?  There are tons of amazing ones out there, but I am going to introduce you to My Four Favourite Baby Carrier’s plus a Giveaway at the bottom of the post so stick around!

My Four Favourite Baby Carriers

Wrapsody Water WrapWrapsody Water Wrap

Honestly, I cannot stress my love of this wrap enough.  I use it so much and for so many things!  Bee was not very tolerant of being on her own for long, even while I showered.  I heard of a wrap I could wear in the shower so she could shower with me.  I literally went out the next day to buy it.  This was a life changer!  I could have nice long showers with a baby all happy and close on me and shower every day.

I wear this wrap a lot in the water while camping.  It is REALLY hot in a tent and can be near impossible for baby to sleep.  I put baby in the carrier, put a hat on their head to protect and shade from the sun then go to the beach and hang out in the water for an hour so they can sleep in cool comfort.  It works amazing!  On vacation this summer this was Po’s main way of napping during the day, my sister would watch Bee playing in the sand and I chatted with friends and enjoyed the water.

I also used it a lot as a newborn stretchy wrap (like a Moby, Baby K’tan, or Maman Kangaroo).  I started wearing Po when he was a few days old in my Wrapsody.  It is super comfortable and worked so well for him to be snuggled up against me.

Hopefully I have convinced you of how awesome this wrap is!  You can use it as a newborn stretchy wrap, lightweight wrap easily stashed in your diaper bag, and for in the water for showering or hanging out at the beach.

Beco SoleilBeco Soleil

This is my favourite soft-structured carrier.  I prefer to wear it with the straps crossed, but I can wear it regular in the front or as a back carry too.

Po napped in here in a front carry for the first 6 months of his life while I worked.  It was super comfy for me and a lot cooler than a stretchy wrap for him (he was a hot baby) and gave me lots of room to get my arms around him to type.

I also use this while running errands as it is super easy to put on and put him in, I also used it for Salsa Babies (baby wearing Latin dancing), while cooking/baking, going for walks, watching Bee at the park, pretty much anywhere.

When Bee got older I loved having her in a back carry.  I had SPD while I was pregnant so I couldn’t carry Bee without having excruciating pain in my pelvis.   Not all stores have carts kids can ride in and using a stroller wasn’t always an option so a carrier worked great.  She was also happy being up high and seeing everything.  It was also much safer in parking lots, I could not chase after a toddler, she was a lot faster than I was and I was worried about her safety so being in a carrier made me more comfortable and her out of harms way.

Toddler TulaToddler Tula

When I had Po my hubby got me a Toddler Tula!  I was so excited!  I could tandem wear them both, which I do not do often as they are heavy.  I found the Beco Soleil was a little small on Bee at this stage so this was much comfier on both of us.

My sister tends to wear Bee in the Tula more than I do as when we go somewhere I wear Po while she wears Bee.  It makes going to festivals and events so much more convenient.  Although she can walk, sometimes she is tired and with large crowds we prefer to baby wear them both and zip through places, not to mention we don’t have to worry about escalators, elevators, rocky slopes, or tight quarters.

Tula carrierTula

My final favourite carrier is the Standard Tula.  I didn’t get to wear this for long.  I had an amazing adventure with my son’s birth group in which we shared a Tula and it got shipped across Canada so everyone had a chance to wear their December 2014 baby in it.  You can check out my story on it here.  This is one of the most well-known brands and most popular so our group went with this Tula as the baby carrier, I only had it for two weeks (insert crying here) but I fell in love with the Tula and seriously debated getting a new pretty Tula in a fun print to enjoy with my son too.  It is similar to other soft-structure carriers too but super fun!

Baby & Toddler Medicine Kit plus Giveaway

How many times have you woken in the night to realize that baby has a fever and needs medication and now you have to find it.  Or gone away and realized baby has a cold and needs some cold meds or cough syrup?  Maybe you are all super organized and have never had to scrounge to find meds at 2:00 am while half-asleep and with no contacts in so can’t even really see.

After one too many of these incidents and also a growing baby who could reach into surfaces and climb anywhere I wanted a safer location to store my meds and all in one spot.

Giveaway - Thirty One What's in my Medicine Kit - To organize baby and toddler medications try this tip to keep them all in one spot. Also hosting a giveaway for a Thirty-One Beauty bag of your own!

This was my solution:

Thirty-One Gifts Beauty Bag.  (Not sponsored I swear but after hearing my idea decided to do a giveaway for this bag themselves).  I love my bag, I carry so much in here, it’s all accessible and when I go away, even for a night I grab the whole bag so I am always prepared for whatever.

Last week I had a sleepover at my moms house, both kids had fevers and coughs, my mom and sister watched with amusement and were slightly impressed to see me pull out my bag and tackle their issues with all the tools needed in one bag.

Momzelle Giveaway & Review

A Review on Momzelle's Nursing Shirts + GIVEAWAY 1

Disclaimer:  I was given a shirt to try out and review, I was not paid for this post and all opinions are my own.

logo

I am so excited that I got a chance to review the Momzelle, Vanessa shirt.  It reminded me of my favourite tank top and I could not wait to try it out.

I chose deep teal because I thought adding a pop of colour to my wardrobe would be a good idea.  I really like the colour.  It’s nice and bright and a fun shade.  My toddler didn’t quite agree she said “oooh pretty new shirt mommy, but mommy don’t you want a PINK shirt”???  She is such a little girlie girl!  I disagree I think the deep teal colour was the best for me.

One of my favourite things about this shirt is how easy it is to nurse in a  carrier.  Because the boob entry is right there it makes nursing in the carrier a cinch.  It is so easy to pop a boob out and into their mouth and doesn’t require hauling your shirt up or down so you are still covered and can give them access quickly.

It is really inconspicuous to use when nursing in public since the appearance of your clothing does not change noticeably, which to me makes me a lot more comfortable when I can nurse discreetly.  I walked around a store nursing my 9-month-old and other than his slurping and the odd position I was carrying him in, no one had noticed.

Momzelle Nursing Clothes

Momzelle is one of my favourite companies that makes nursing clothes.  For the past few Christmas and birthday’s my presents have been nursing tops from here.  They are local (ish depending on where you live), Canadian, and have a great return policy if something does not fit.

I have been nursing for two-and-a-half years.  I find that having the appropriate clothing makes a big difference in ease of nursing, travelling outside the house, and just your general comfort level.   My babies never liked the nursing cover, and frankly I didn’t either.  I found some I liked, but Bee got hot and cried under them, and I had a very strong let down so if she came off at all she would frequently be sprayed in the eyes or nose and start screaming, since she was under the cover I couldn’t see what was wrong right away.  I soon decided to find nursing friendly clothes to make things easier.

With nursing clothes I can easily see baby so I know if they are latched properly, fallen asleep, or being sprayed in the face.  I tend to wrap a receiving blanket around the outside of their body and head if I want more privacy/modesty.  I do not want to show my stomach off, but I also don’t like showing off my shoulder or top boob area either, I want to pop the boob out with no real change to my clothes.  People frequently don’t even know I am nursing baby sometimes as they can’t see a boob and only heard Po’s not so subtle slurping sounds to alert them.

Since I planned on having more than one child, and knew my goal was to breastfeed to at least two-years-old (good extra nutrients for vegetarian babies) it was a good decision to invest in some nice nursing tops/dresses so I still felt good about my clothes when I went out and not so frumpy, especially since I would be nursing for two to four years most likely.
