Pinkalicious Bubble Wand & Bubbles

Pinkalicious Bubble Wand & Bubbles - Join the #monthlycraftingbookclub to celebrate Pinkalicious-themed crafts this month. Make some bubbles & bubble wands!

This month in the Monthly Crafting Book club we are doing the Pinkalicious series.  I decided to make Pinkalicious Bubble Wand & Bubbles.  My four-year-old daughter, Bee, LOVES the Pinkalicious books.  They are about a little girl who loves pink, unicorns, cupcakes, mermaids, and lots more.  Perfect for little girls.  My two-year-old son loves them too, but he is easy going and loves all books.

I did some searching on Pinterest for Pinkalicious ideas and was happy to come across Pinkalicious preschool work pages and colouring pages.  I printed them off for my daughter to do during afternoon quiet time.  My son still naps so we use this time to do home work pages and keep learning.  Sticking to our Pinkalicious theme today was great.  I am mentioning this as if any of you are interested you can find school work-pages on Pinterest too.

I decided to take advantage of some of the amazing weather this week by doing bubbles and home-made bubble wands with the kids.

  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Pony beads (or other kinds)

String the pony beads onto the pipe cleaners, filling up maybe the bottom half to two thirds.  Wrap the end of the pipe cleaner back around and inside the bottom bead to hold.  On top shape it into a circle, diamond, heart, etc.  Whatever shape you want!  I did find that it helped to keep the circles small. I liked to do figure eights as they were more likely to work and make the best bubbles.

  • 2.5 cups of water
  • 0.5 cups of corn syrup
  • 0.5 cups Dawn dish soap (apparently this one works best, you can try another if you are brave).

Pour the water and corn syrup into a large glass bowl.  Microwave for about four minutes.  Then pour in the dish soap and stir well.

I poured the mixture into little bowls and let the kids go nuts!  They had so much fun dipping over and over with their home-made bubble wands.  My son has a tendency to spill bubble mixture a lot.  Intentionally and accidentally, I mean WHY would anyone put their feet in a bubble mixture bowl??  A two-year-old can find a reason!  At least with home-made stuff I don’t feel like he is pouring money down the drain.  We made tons of bubbles, caught lots on the sticks and had a blast.  We were all super sticky afterwards but had a great time!

IMPORTANT CHANGES

There was a buzz in the blogosphere. A blogger, a linky party host was fined a hefty amount for a photo that she evidently used illegally in her linky party. The problem is that..the photo was a feature. She featured a blogger from the link up, that blogger that she featured used an illegal photo. Meaning, photos that she didn’t take herself / not royalty free / unlicensed / unpaid stock photos. To protect Hilary and I, we will not do features starting two weeks ago.

However….
We still want to make this party fun!!

S’Mores Craft

S'Mores Craft - Do your kids love camping and summer? Time to roast marshmallows and make some S'Mores crafts with your kids and celebrate some camping themed books.

Do you love camping?  We LOVE to read camping books in the summer, actually all year long.  Something fun to make alongside reading the book is a fun S’Mores Craft.  S’Mores is the epitome of summer to us.  Roasting marshmallows on the campfire is one of the best parts of camping. My kids love doing this every  summer and reading camping books starts to get everyone excited for upcoming camping trips.

Materials Needed:

  • Glue gun, paint  brushes, something to put the paint in
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Paint: brown, white, & yellow
  • Googly eyes
  • Gem (or something else for a nose)
  • Glitter glue

How to Assemble

  • Firstly, paint the Popsicle sticks.  Make sure you have four sticks per each kid.  Paint two of them yellow, one each brown and white.  Let them dry.
  • Next have an adult use the glue gun to glue the Popsicle sticks together.  The yellows are the cookies on the end, the brown is the chocolate in the middle and the white is the marshmallow for the middle.
  • Glue the google eyes and gem stones on wherever your child directs you to.
  • Using the glitter glue make a smile for your S’more Craft dude.
  • Optional: add magnets on the back to put him on the fridge.  Or add a string to hang it up.

What would you do with your S’More Craft?

S'Mores Craft - Do your kids love camping and summer? Time to roast marshmallows and make some S'Mores crafts with your kids and celebrate some camping themed books.

Have you heard of the Monthly Crafting Book Challenge yet?  Every month we have a book, author, or theme and come up with a craft to accompany the book.  The hope is when we combine a fun book with a craft it makes children more excited to read and brings the book to life.

7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts and Baby Toys plus Giveaway

7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts - Are you going to a baby shower soon? Expecting? Here are 7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts any mom would love plus a GIVEAWAY for a baby toy.

Baby showers are so much fun!  But even more fun is picking out the Baby Shower Gifts.  Whether you are pregnant and making your first list.  Second or third time mom having a sprinkle for you or just trying to make your own list.  Or maybe you have a pregnant friend or relative and are debating what to get them.  I hope this list is helpful to you.  There are two different ways to go with gifts for a new baby, both are awesome, but different approaches.  You can go the useful approach and get practical gifts a mom really needs for a new baby.  Or you can splurge and get the mama something fun she wouldn’t necessarily get for herself but would find really fun.

Make sure you enter in the giveaway below for an adorable Organic Panda Rattle Baby Toys by Estella which would make a great Baby Shower Gift.

1. Baby Gear

7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts - Are you going to a baby shower soon? Expecting? Here are 7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts any mom would love plus a GIVEAWAY for a baby toy.

Any developmental baby toys for up to one year.  Rattles, lots of teething toys, stacking cups (my favourite!), O-Balls, and loveys.  Plus nice muslin receiving blankets.  These can double as a swaddling cloth, burp cloth, blanket, nursing cover, carrier cover, blanket for tummy time, picnics, and the ground outside.

What do you like to give as a #babyshowergift? Check out these suggestions here. Click To Tweet

2. Baby Clothes

7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts - Are you going to a baby shower soon? Expecting? Here are 7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts any mom would love plus a GIVEAWAY for a baby toy.

Go for bigger sizes.  Most people give newborn and 0-3 months.  My kids were BIG babies and big kids, they grew out of both those sizes by four weeks.  Make sure you are buying clothes that are safe to wear in any season.  You never know what size baby will be, some are true to size, some are months/years ahead or behind.  So to be safe stick to safe clothes like baby onsies, maybe light pants or sweaters, t-shirts, and of course sleepers.  Little hats are safe at any season, even in summer outside it can be cold (especially while camping) so hats are a great gift.  Cute little geeky hats are fun for newborn photo shoots if you know their shows (Zelda, Firefly, Star Wars, etc.) to give them as a baby shower gift.

3. Baby Carrier

7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts - Are you going to a baby shower soon? Expecting? Here are 7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts any mom would love plus a GIVEAWAY for a baby toy.

These make great gifts for a newborn.  Any mom would be happy to have a carrier.  A stretchy carrier like a Wrapsody Water Wrap (my fav for the newborn stage) or a Moby are perfect.  A more structured carrier like a Beco or Tula make great gifts, but are harder to buy for another person without trying on.  A gift card for a carrier is a safe present, or asking her if she has one on her list.  Check out my post on my favourite carriers here.

4. Home made Gifts

7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts - Are you going to a baby shower soon? Expecting? Here are 7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts any mom would love plus a GIVEAWAY for a baby toy.

If you can knit a blanket, make chewlery necklaces, Pacifier Clips, quilts, hats, or other baby gifts those are really fun and super thoughtful.  A hand-made gift always lets them know you are thinking of them and made it for them especially.  Plus how could baby not feel the love while surrounded by gifts made just for them?

What are your favourite #babytoys to give a new mom? Check out ideas for #babyshowergifts here. Click To Tweet

5. Gift Baskets

7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts - Are you going to a baby shower soon? Expecting? Here are 7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts any mom would love plus a GIVEAWAY for a baby toy.

Put together gift baskets for the new mom.  Whether it is a breastfeeding basket, medicine kit, early feeding gear, bath time tools, etc.  Everything is so helpful to a new mom to help set her up with tools she may need.  I am a personal favourite of the breastfeeding basket because you always need that stuff as a new mom and having it all in the same spot is a life saver when you sit down for a marathon cluster feeding session.  A Medicine Kit (check out the link above for ideas to include) is worth it’s weight in gold when you have a sick baby at 2:00 am when all the pharmacies are closed or you are stuck alone with baby.

6. Diapers

7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts - Are you going to a baby shower soon? Expecting? Here are 7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts any mom would love plus a GIVEAWAY for a baby toy.

Whether mom is cloth diapering or disposable diapering, she is going to need tons.  Don’t stay to small sizes like newborn, go for size 1 or 2 in disposable or cloth diapering one size ones.  Diaper cakes are super cute if you are a crafty kind of person and want to make it.  They also make great centerpieces at a baby shower.

What is your favourite thing to give as a Baby Shower Gift?

7. Board Books

7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts - Are you going to a baby shower soon? Expecting? Here are 7 Practical Baby Shower Gifts any mom would love plus a GIVEAWAY for a baby toy.

One of my favourite baby shower gifts is giving board books.  Actually I give these instead of cards and write a loving message to the new baby in it.  Moms need tons of board books, reading the same ones repeatedly gets tiring, so the new mom will need lots.
