The Witch’s Market
by Mingmei Yip
Genre – Non-Fiction
Version for Review – Kindle
This book is not at all what I expected. It is about a girl who lives in the US but takes some time off work and from her on again off again boyfriend to research witches and write a book about them. Along her journey she runs into many unexpected people (including witches) who teach her things along the way. There are lots of opportunities for romance and a new life if she chooses.
I was not expecting a murder mystery or a bit of a thriller. Yes, I am a wimp, but I actual found this book a little scary and gave me some weird dreams. She gets herself into some sketchy situations that made me a little anxious. Yes, this is a fictional story, but it was a little above and beyond attempting to seem realistic in a modern-day society. Her disappearing to a deserted village for a month seemed super unrealistic, but it was an integral part of the story and a fun adventure. I actually had an easier time with her talking to ghosts and spirits than living in a strange man’s castle!
I really enjoyed this story and would recommend it to others as well. If you like mysteries, witches, and those types of books you may like this book. Although not a lot about witches in a traditional sense with spells and magic, it does have mentions of them and a lot about being a shamaness or different cultures versions of a witch.#TheWitchesMarket is a fun mystery book for anyone interested in the supernatural.
